Workshops
Chair/Evaluator Training Events (by invitation only)
In order to orient team members to their role in participating on an accreditation visit, mandatory training is held several times a year for persons appointed to serve on teams. For all Team Chairs and Assistant Chair/Team Editors, as well as in-region Evaluators, a full-day workshop is held a semester prior to the visit (in May for Fall visits; in September for Spring visits). Team members who are out of the region and/or cannot attend the full-day workshop must participate in one of the two-hour conference call sessions. These training events cover visit preparation and logistics; a review of the Standards and CFRs; and methods for conducting visits, including strategies that align with the two-visit model and focus on student learning. For further information about these Chair/Evaluator Training Events, please contact Cameron Wu Cardona by email cwucardona@wascsenior.org.

January Workshops: "The Institutional Proposal and Beyond" (by invitation only)*
These workshops are designed for institutions with Capacity and Preparatory Review visits in Fall 2009,
Spring 2010
and Fall 2010. The workshops cover presentation of Institutional Proposal and its relationship to the
Capacity & Preparatory and Educational Effectiveness reviews.
Time/Locations:
January 15-16, 2009
Location: TBD
Description of WASC Institutional Workshop
Our
WASC Institutional Workshops are held once a year in January
to jump-start the planning for your upcoming
accreditation review.
The workshops focus on the Institutional Proposal and how it lays the foundation for the
two-stage
site visit process: incuding the Capacity & Preparatory Review
and the Educational Effectiveness Review. The accreditation process has changed significantly
under the 2001 Handbook (available on our website, www.wascsenior.org).
Our four accreditation Standards are holistic and interconnected;
each cuts across the institution rather than conforming to typical
administrative areas. As a result, active involvement of
senior institutional leadership is critical to the success of
the WASC
accreditation process. We recommend that this workshop
be attended by your president, chief academic officer, accreditation
liaison officer, and key leadership from your faculty governing
body (e.g., chair of the faculty senate; chair of the assessment
committee),
and the key individual responsible for institutional
research.
Institutions have found that attendance at this workshop is
critical to building an understanding of the WASC process
and to
developing an Institutional Proposal that is meaningful
to the institution. As attendance at these important workshops
has increased over the years, so has the acceptance rate of our
proposals, which are reviewed by our standing Proposal Review
Committee.
Our recent workshops have been held over a two-day
period in Northern and Southern California locations. More
information
will be posted on our website as soon as it becomes
available.
